Is it possible to specify the regional variation/accent to use for TTS in English with Google Translate?
The configuration below passes configuration validation (en-gb
and en-UK
do not, as examples), but spoken text on media players plays with a US accent.
tts: # Text to speech
- platform: google_translate
language: 'en-uk'
The Google Translate language page does not mention accents. But, if I use Google Translate in a browser or use the Android app with the system language set to English (United Kingdom), text is spoken with a British accent.
I haven’t tried TTS in a long time. I’m pretty sure that en-uk
used to work as expected with the old Google TTS integration.
