Is the Home Assistant team and community aware of the pending change (September 2026) of Google to require developers to register them at Google? This is not only about publish apps via the Google Play Store, but counts for all apps distributed via third party app stores and APK distribution.
This makes software distribution via F-Droid (Home Assistant is also published there: Home Assistant | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository) and direct APK packages almost impossible.
The community has created a website https://keepandroidopen.org/ where you can find more information on this topic.
I would encourage the Home Assistant/Nabu Casa team to sign the open letter at An Open Letter to Google regarding Mandatory Developer Registration for Android App Distribution as many other large projects (like Brave, Nextcloud, KDE, Gnome and VideoLAN) already have done.
