I have been using HA since few months now and am super happy I made the switch. In order to get more options in terms of creating nice graphs I installed InfluxDB and Grafana. However, after weeks of playing around with this and trying to make things work - meaning getting my graphs into the HA Dashboards and keep them visible also on my iPhone and iPad when I am not at home - there seems to be an issue.
After further AI investigations I get following:
It appears that enabling anonymous access to Grafana when using Home Assistant Cloud (I do use Cloud access) is not possible. Here’s a summary of the key points:
- Home Assistant Cloud limitations: it is not possible to enable anonymous or non-administrator access with Home Assistant Cloud. This includes embedding Grafana resources with an iframe or rendered image inside of a dashboard.
- Grafana Cloud restrictions: Anonymous access is not allowed for Grafana Cloud dashboards, which is likely the case for the Grafana instance integrated with Home Assistant Cloud.
- No access to configuration files: With cloud-hosted solutions like Home Assistant Cloud or Grafana Cloud (free plan), users don’t have access to the grafana.ini configuration file, which is typically used to enable anonymous access in self-hosted Grafana instances.
- Security considerations: Enabling anonymous access at the scale of cloud services would require significant infrastructure and security work, which hasn’t been implemented yet for these platforms.
So my questions really is how to get this resolved as I really want to move to InfluxDB (as my database is growing daily) and also Grafana.
Will there be other options in future updates of HA that will make this possible without any issue?
Thanks much,
Paul
