Green vs Yellow

Hello, I’m new to the Home Assistant world but not to programming…

I want to be able to create sensors in code and add to the configuration, customise the dashboard etc. I haven’t found any details on this comparing the specs of the Green and Yellow versions.

So my question is, will the Green allow me to do this? I guess this means having a full version of the OS and access to all the relevant tools (software) on the device.

I’m not really interested in what external devices each version can interface to.

Sorry for my ignorance, and many thanks for any advice you can give!

The main difference between those two is that the Yellow has Zigbee inbuilt, otherwise both do what you are talking about as that is the software / OS side of things, which is the same for both.

The yellow is more of a kit now (Hardware wise, to allow for hardware add-ons). The Green is not, no expansion of Hardware. Software is the same for the most part. The most part being those items not in the green but can be added on the yellow.
