Grouping Automations on frontend for organization

I’d like to see this too. In the meantime I add a category label to the beginning of the title since they are alphabetical, “Scene -”, “Notification -”, "Motion - " etc.

I just came here to suggest this and glad there’s more people that think it could be useful.

Yes this would benefit greatly as someone who has many rooms and many people with different scenes. Maybe a tag field, person field or an area field on each scene/automation/script that you can sort by would work.

Hey!

I also came here to post this request because I have already too many automations and very hard to organise automations only with names.

Paulus responded to a question about adding folders for automations on the latest release party call. He thinks they are not needed because of all of the filtering that is already provided.

I disagree. Folders or tags would be helpful.

Agree too. Its not about finding stuff, its about organizing it.
Also, you can only filter/search what you know already. Not always the case after some months.

Agreed, Paulus response is clearly showing a lack of focus on the users need.

Pitching my support to request making folders for scripts within the UI. I have scripts per room and it would be great to be able to organize this better.

Honestly, I use node-red just because I can make multiple tabs and organize the automations better. If you have more than 20, just a loong long list in HA gets confusing quickly, at least for me.

Good news guys, this is coming in the next release…

Are you sure about that?

The beta release notes suggest to me that they are adding filtering by device and area which will be an improvement but short of robust tagging / folder capability.

Indeed, if you need to use a second tool/software to achieve a function in the first one, then the path forward should be to include that function IMHO.

Tags would be great.

Hi, I just created an account to make this feature request.

Apparently I am not the only one

Would love to give some tags to my automations. In my opinion tags are better then folders, simply because multiple tags can be relevant.

+1 for this feature too. Now that our UI Automation/Script tools are so good, I’m creating more and more. Better ways to organize, like folders is becoming a necessity.

Unfortunately, I have just done the same. I’ve been an HA user for years, have tried node-red on at least two other occasions and didn’t really like it. After some recent frustration trying to find and work with multiple automations I decided to give node-red another try. I now have about 10 automations migrated with about 35 more to go.

I’m still not super thrilled with it but, it allows me to much better organize all of my automations than HA does.

Also, a great idea to sort automations or scripts could be tags, given by the user. So that you can easily sort your automations by a certain tag and make them more easy to find.

Please add tags and folders to help us better categorize automations, scripts, etc.
When there’s a butt load of these, having this would make creating and maintaining job way cleaner and easier.

I vote for tags.
The folder structure has its limitations.
With tags, you could assign multiple tags to single automation.
For example, you could assign: heater and living-room tags. With multiple tags per automation, you will be able to filter all heaters in your house or all devices in the living room or all heaters in the living room.

OK so… will you create a separate FR? Or will we just unite and vote for at least ANY sorting method?
