Is anybody using the Gstreamer Component with any success?
I have it all installed, and it loads ok, but when hass starts it creates a new child process and between them they use up 100% of the cpu.
I can play audio using gst-launch-1.0 so I think the Gstreamer installation is ok, and the configuration is just
media_player:
- platform: gstreamer
So I’m not sure what else to try.
It’s a known issue. There’s some technical problems with the implementation. If you’re running on a more powerful machine, you can absorb the usage.
It would be nice to mark the component as non-operational somewhere in the documentation.
I was quite happy to spend a few hours installing and learning about gstreamer, but it is asking a lot for people to to through the effort only to discover the component just doesn’t work.
is Gstreamer still broken?
Today it is still buggy, but the gstreamer-player component 4 days ago got a fix. I hope hassio will include it soon.
