I have been trying to find a way of making my hard wired 240v (GU10) outside lights be controllable by HA. The issue is none of the 240v in-line wifi switches are approved for use in Australia.
I have come across these smart GU10 globes on ebay which will fit my fittings, has anyone tried these or know if these are controllable from Home Assistant?
I’m guessing they are going to be Tuya cloud devices but still not a bad price. A bit dim perhaps.
I’ve got the Lifx GU10s everywhere. Expensive, bright and local control. The best thing to do if you are considering buying Lifx is to wait until they go on sale. Regularly get two for one sales.
Looking at the photos its an ‘Extsud’ brand. With a bit of help from Google, they use the ‘Smartlife’ app, which would suggest they are a Tuya device and could (probably / maybe…if not the new blocked firmware) be flashed using Tuya-Convert.
The other thing you need to watch out for with GU10 globes is the the body length. Some (such as the LIFX) are often a lot longer than a standard GU10 globe and in some cases they won’t fit inside your light fitting. I had this trouble once before when trying to replace GU10 halogens with compact fluoro’s.
Have you looked at Osram Lightify ? I use them in external up and down lights. I did use them with an Osram gateway but have since connected then with ZigBee via deCONZ. Had zero problems and if you watch Amazon/eBay you can get the RGB ones every now and again for about £20-30 each.
All of these places sell Aus certified Z-Wave equipment. I have a heap of Z-Wave and love it, they have been super fast / responsive. For your outdoor lights you could use one Z-Wave switch to ‘replace’ the existing light switch which controls the lot on that circuit, rather than replacing each globe.
You will need a hub since you don’t yet have Z-Wave, but the Aeotec Z-Stick is great and worth the $85. Once you have that it opens up a world of products such as multisensors for motion, temp, humidity or simple door and window sensors.
