HA 14.1 on Raspberry Pi 4 - multiple installation errors

Hi,
I’m running HA 14.1 on a Pi 4 at the moment. I did a clean install a couple of weeks ago. Today I wanted to test backup and recovery, so tried to do another install onto a nice new Sandisk A2 card.

I’m using the Raspberry Pi imager on the same PC as before, and in fadt the same micro SD to USB adapter.

I must have tried about six times now, reformatting the SD between attempts. Each time it seems to come up with a different error. Mustly it hits the “jump into emergency console” issue but after that it goes different ways …
Once after entering “login” it just cycled back to the same point after a few minutes.
Once it looked to be coming up but instead of showing the URLs it reported a setup error.
Once it actually started the web UI and progressesd for quite a few minutes before blowing it’s brains out.
Once on first boot it just goes through what looks like normal boot up, but then blanks the screen and reboots.

Any time I revert to the working SD card it starts and runs fine.

I don’t think all these different errors can be issues with the software itself, so is there some way my process could be at fault, creating corrupt images?

I use Windisk32 Win32Disk to make copies of my SD cards. If you can make a copy of the SD card, and it boots/runs ok, it’s probably your process.

Thanks, do you mean take an image of my working SD card, blow it onto the new one? If that works it proves my new card is OK.

Yes. That’s how I do my backups. See SD Card Reliability.

Thanks. Are you referring to “Win32 Disk Imager”? https://win32diskimager.org/

Hopefully not as that won’t run on my Win 10 64 bit PC. It doesn’t give an error, just doesn’t launch

That’s the one. Runs fine I my Win 10 64 bit. But I have to exit Google Drive first or it won’t start.

Thanks, I do have Google Drive, it would never have occurred to me that it would interfere.
Meanwhile I used a different tool to create an image from my working SD card. If I blow it onto the new Sandisk it doesn’t properly boot. Same sort of errors. But blow it onto a different card that I had lying around, and it does work.

So it looks like at least one of my nice new Sandisk “Extreme” cards is faulty.

Very odd the imaging, because it wrote the image OK and verified it. So on the PC the card seems to work, but not in the Pi.
