I am considering getting the Abode iota once it is available later this year. It looks like a really promising security system.
I know Abode works with HA but I am curious about the current integration. Does HA communicate with Abode over the local network or only over the internet/cloud?
If it is only cloud based then how are the delays when you trip an Abode sensor and HA being notified.
I’ve been told the delay is a half second longer than if you didn’t have to go through Abode cloud. Yes, HASS has to use the cloud to communicate with Abode, for now at least. They’re apparently working on opening up local access.

It’s all cloud based currently. Like iceman24 mentioned, Abode has talked about enabling local control so when that happens hopefully I’ll be able to utilize that instead.
I’ve never noticed any significant delay - typically less than a second is my experience.
I have abode. It is fast enough for me to run automations. For example I open a door, and the light turns on. Sometimes this is a little slow, but it seems to be the actual abode, because the door chirp also takes a second. But 95% of the time it is not an issue.
Are you using Adode as your z-wave controller? I’m thinking about just using Adode for security but still maintaining a spereate z-wave network with HA.
I personally am not. Though reading reviews it seems pretty solid. My dad uses it as a z wave controller and has no problems.
Sorry to dig up an old thread — but I havent been able to find the answer so maybe the users will know!
Is it possible to actually trigger the alarm itself from HA ? Eg if i hae an abobe alarm, but have a non abode door sensor on a different door, can i use HA to trigger the alarm in the event that door is opened and the alarm is armed ?
If not, i guess i replace my sensors with abode ones, and use them for both, but figured it would be a good interm and short term cost saving!
