HA and CalyxOS

Hi. Does anyone have experience with running HA on CalyxO?. I have recently got it up and running and have started struggling with HA soon. Foss version does not provide location. OK, so I tried installing the version from the play store. I have MicroG activated. I installed the modules (Local NLP Backend and Mozzilla Location Service). Enabled all location tracking. According to the status it reads some data, but HA shows the status “unknown”. Am I doing something wrong or am I just unlucky on this OS? I’ll try to go through the automation, luckily I only have dependencies on the “home or away” status, so it could be overridden just on the wifi status.

unfortunately some custom ROMs dont respect the Google APIs that the app uses. Have you tried installing google maps and opening it up to make sure it gets location?

there is no support for custom ROMs using the full version

Yes, this behavior is to be expected with an OS like Calyx/Graphene. I was kind of hoping that HA would go against this and not require an api from Google. But I’ve been warned about that by the FOSS version, which doesn’t have geolocation.

Anyway. Yes, if I install google maps, then I get a specific address. Anyway, even according to the information Calyx provides me, HA takes information from microg as well. I still installed the other recommended modules yesterday. And tested today. Even without google maps the phone reflects the change of location. It already reported me at home even if it was not connected to home wifi. Only the geolocation status is “unknown”. I don’t understand it in detail, but apparently just not able to resolve the location name - address. I might be able to solve this with a custom cvs file, but I’m not interested in looking into it yet (nor do I know what the correct syntax for such a file is).

But it seems that even without google maps it somehow works and I can continue to use the much needed zones feature in automations.
