I’ve been having a weird issue for the couple months after setting up my Home Assistant instance. I run an Apple TV 4K (latest gen) for watching live TV through apps like Sky Go and iPlayer, etc.
After adding the discovered ATV as a device in HA, it refuses to play most video after a couple hours and gets stuck with an infinite loading wheel. I’ve tested this multiple times and it only happens after the ATV is added to HA. The issue can only be resolved after wiping the device.
I’m wondering what causes this issue. Is Home Assistant flooding the Apple TV with requests that in turn cause it to get bricked?
I had the reverse once, when an app on a mediaplayer bombarded HA. I think it was constantly updating thumbnails. My problem stopped after the app updated. Is it linked to using a special app on the Apple TV? Or do you have some automation triggering on the media player?
I have 6 Apple TV’s, 3 are the latest 4K generation and haven’t ever had a single blip. How do you know it’s HA? Or is it coincidental that HA integration was enabled around the same time? If you remove the integration does everything work again?
I’m trying to think of how the integration could cause playback issues and can’t.
WiFi router replacement did eventually fix the issue. After making the original post I tested this a few more times and the problem definitely only happened after adding the ATV to HA.
Could’ve been loads of things working together to cause the problem but i’m glad that i’m up and running now.
