HA is *$^&% awesome

I’ve been working with HA since I installed my Green device from Seeed Studio a few weeks ago. As a noob, it takes me perhaps longer it should for me to figure out ways of doing things, like automations, integrations, setting my dashboard. I haven’t dipped my toe yet into YAML and it’s a little imposing, tbh.

Just want to say that this platform and the community that supports it are excellent. This forum, the documentation section of the home page, and YouTube content creators are great sources of information to help people along their home automation journey. Thanks to all the people that give up their time to develop and support this effort.

Same here. Had a HK, Hue,Hubitat thing going VERY well, but curiosity had me reach out to grab a Green. HA easily pulled in what I have going, and in 2-3 weeks I got all the Hubitat controls and automations working in HA.

Same here. Not goin near YAML yet, but poking around a bit gives insights into what’s going on there, and I suppose in due time dabbling will occur. . .

But there’s also the RFM factor. That’s “Ready For Me”, not to be confused with RTFM [g]. When Apple introduced OSX, the Mac was ready for me after the DOS → Windows years , and I embraced it whole hog. Not one regret. I don’t know what HA was like last year, or years before that, but today it’s ready for ME! (And Thee, as well as other Thees out there).

The only thing I’ve yet to try is getting some of the HK video feeds into HA. Not sure the Green has enough for a handful of video streams, but I’ll find out soon enough. That’s the only reason right now I need HK’s dashboard in addition to the HA dash.

I’m very jazzed with HA, and how the Green made so easy to get HA going. It’s an adventure, and it’s only the beginning here.

Maybe, even, I might one day start greetings with a “Live Long and YAML”. It could happen. Definitely maybe.

As long as you don’t fill your dashboards with live streams you should be ok. Call them on demand.

The other lower resource use option is to use a generic camera instead of a stream. The picture card preview updates every 10 seconds, the more info pop-up updates every second.

Thank you, Tom. That’s encouraging, as I do reference streaming at times, and past activity, but shut down the streams as a habit otherwise.

Er. . . Live long and - you know. :upside_down_face:

Once you are ready to get your feet wet with YAML here is a good place to start.

The first time I loaded the HA dashboard I was taken aback at the quality of the software. It just worked. I still often think what’s stated on the name of this topic.
