HA on Odroid boards: 2G or 4G RAM?

Hi,

I am new to Home Assistant and would like to buy a board dedicated to home automation. The Odroid N2 seems a good option, I use an Odroid HC2 for home servers without problems. Before buying, I’d like to ask if anyone uses Odroid boards, and are there any pitfalls, or hiccups to be aware of? What system (OS/venv/container) do you use for it? Is it worth spending £20+ for extra 2GB RAM (4G vs. 2GB)?

Thank you,

For the simplest rule of thumb, I’d prefer for the bigger RAM. That would keep standing for the fast growth of the software for a bit longer.

Thank you, that makes sense. However, I abandoned the idea of buying a new board for the time being. The reason was the eMMC card, which would cost £50 (a 64GB card), so almost again the price of the whole board. I’ll install it on my HC2, on an SSD. Btw, do you know why HA requires this huge amount of storage?

minimum requirements: storage 32 GB

Is this mainly for data collected in a long period, or some pieces of software?

Thanks,

They suggest such dimension because of the database, which may grow several Mbytes a day. But one may not interest to keep a long history, so purging once in a week would suffice even 16 Gb SD card, IMHO.
