later this month I am going to replace my S3 tablet running android 9 and rather than trading it in thought I might use it for HA. I am getting more confused by the day. I have found a topic re installing core on an android tablet, but then on reading the MANY comments it seems quite problematical and I’m not sure if I would be able to get it to work. Is there an idiots guide or even a newer guide?

Welcome to the community. I can’t specifically answer your question but I do have a bit of information to add. Hopefully this sends you in the direction you are looking. First off are you currently running HA somewhere else? If you are the tablet may be a great “Dashboard” interface for an existing interface. There are applications to make this access more intuitive (browser mod, kiosk browser). I personally would not recommend using this tablet as your HA install location as I think maintenance may be problematic. I originally had HA on a RPI 4, then moved to an x86 dedicated celeron PC, now I am currently running the docker install on a pretty fast x86 i7 pc I call my server. I did run an android tablet as a Dashboard for quite a while and continue to do this with a different system as the battery exploded on the tablet. As far as dashboards go they are pretty straightforward and really only need a browser to access the HA system. However you choose to proceed, I look forward to hearing about your progress.
You use the tablet to view HA running somewhere else.
There’s no supported install option to run HA itself on a tablet. Yes, you can find those third party guides and head past the here be dragons sign… but I’d suggest that you really don’t.
Thanks, No not running HA anywhere else.
May give it a miss then as it seems to be a can of worms.
