HA OS not getting update notification since 8.2

When I browse the forum, I have seen mentions of OS 8.3 and 8.4 lately.
But then I have not got any OTA update notifications on HA OS for a while now. (Supervisor and core updates are fine.)

So I check 2 things:

  1. Releases · home-assistant/operating-system (github.com) suggests the latest being 8.4, as of yesterday. And 8.2 was ~ 6 weeks ago already.
  2. From CLI, I have got version_latest: "8.2"

Puzzled, I went ahead and for an OS update, via the command
ha os update --version=8.4
… which went fine. No issues on the update process.

Still, I got this:

Hence the questions: What’s going on? Where/what do I look for to troubleshoot this?

Could someone help?

(… Is there anything abnormal or of concern?)

I just checked my install and am also on OS 8.2

Glad I am not alone.

Over last 6 weeks, update notifications (and updates) on core, supervisor, and addons were all OK.
But somehow we have to manually update OS for versions beyond 8.2…

Anything I can help provide / check? Is there a bug somewhere?

Might be a bug?
Does any one else seeing the same?

To check, open CLI or ssh to your HA VM, and then do these
ha os info
… and see what you have under the output of version_latest.

Just noticed this as well. Seems like a bug:

➜ ~ ha os info
board: rpi4-64
boot: B
data_disk: /dev/mmcblk0p8
update_available: false
version: "8.2"
version_latest: "8.2"

Was wondering whether I didn’t pass some check so that I cannot update beyond 8.2…?

BTW, if I do ha os update (without specifying version), it would downgrade the OS from 8.4 back to 8.2.

Also on 8.2

update_available: false
version: “8.2”
version_latest: “8.2”

Thanks for the confirmation. So I have raised an issue.
Bug? Using OS 8.2, and could not get OS release upgrade notification 8.3 and 8.4 · Issue #2029 · home-assistant/operating-system (github.com)

Same story here. Sorry for the screenshot, copy paste wouldn’t work for some reason…

As mentioned in the issue report above.

8.2 is currently the latest stable version. Thus, it is correct that it is the latest version.

8.3 was built as a candidate, but we have found an issue with it, so it didn’t get released into the wild because of that.
8.4 is currently a candidate too, addresses the issue from 8.3, and is being tested across all platforms/devices and on the beta channels.

Ah OK! Thank you.
If possible, would we consider adding tags to the GitHub release page? At the moment they all look in the same “release” state.

GitHub releases are used for build versioning, not for declaring stability. Feel free to check out the version repository, which is actually used for this.

PS: The PR to send 8.4 stable has just been opened a couple of minutes ago.
