I’m very very new to HA so I hope I’ve put this in the appropriate topic area. If not apologies.

I’ve used every search phrase I can think of in the documentation, here and in youtube and I just cant piece the following together, likely because I’m very very new to HA.

I moved my HA system from the initial memory (SD? Emmx ? don’t understand that yet) to an internal SSD on my HA yellow unit. I’d like to purchase and move to a larger SSD. I also use the HA backup tool to backup to my NAS. So all my copies are external.

I’ve tried to find the steps to do this but everything I find explains how to use a backup to restore to a already running HA system. I assume since I’ll be swapping out my current ssd for a bigger one there isn’t anything “running” to boot from once the new ssd is installed.

Can anyone point me to documentation that lays out in good detail the steps (prepping or other wise) to make this happen safely and as easy as possible?

Short version:
Install a fresh version of HA on the new disk.

Make sure whatever system you’re running on is configured to boot from that new disk.

Select the restore from backup option on the onboarding screen. If that fails, create a dummy user then restore after the new disk has been set up
