I had two HA updates this morning
HA OS and HA Core.
I have a Green machine that ran out of space a few months ago so I added an external SSD.
That has been working great since then.
The issue below has been happening for quite a while and I have been meaning to come here and ask why.
I did the OS update first
HA shuts down the external SSD after a OS update completes and I have to manually hit the button on the SSD to turn it back on.
HA then comes back on line
I then did the core update which finishes without issues.
Why do the OS updates always shut down the SSD?

I have not, but i more wonder how/which “external ssd”, Is it a “network share Or a Move data disk” you added ?
And do you have any “evidence” , I.e A Logs shoving HA execute a “Shutdown” of the external disk ?
You do know where you can find your “Raw-Logs” ( Not log-overview !) ? , And You could also “add” Debug, if you don’t find clues in the ordinary Logs
Also have in mind, that i.e a Reboot of your HA-Device, will Shutdown i.e it’s USB-ports, How HA actively can turn of the “dedicated/separate” Power-Provider for Your external SSD, is also a mystery , or … well, you don’t by any chance have the ssd powered from Your HA-Devices USB port ? ( Hint, The Reboot, will turn of the USB-Posts )
I ran out of room of the Green Machine and did move data a few months ago
So the Samsung SSD is my system disk in a case that has a power button on the side.
Restarting HA does not shut down the SSD only OS updates
I have to physically go to the SSD and click the power button
The Green machine is still on but it does not have access to the SSD
HA then comes back on line in my browsers
Yes ofcause, if you have your disk in a case with a powerbutton
Again When you Reboot( “Reboot” is Not The Same as “Restart”) ( HA will ReBoot after an i.e OS update ! ), Then it turns of the NIC, USB’s etc, like when you Reboot your PC/Laptop
Your “Dumb SSD Case” will then shutdown( Well, you didn’t tell whether the DISK-Case has it’s own “powersource” or if it gets power from your Green’s USB ports ???
Also “of Topic” do you use the powersupply that came with your HA-Green ?
The SSD is connect to the Green Machine Via a USB blue cable. It does not have it’s own power supply. The Green machine powers it through the USB. It’s the same deal as SSD’s I use to clone-backup my desktops.
The Green Machine is powered by whatever came with it.
The GM is on after a OS update but I have not sat there and watched the procedure.

In Short, When you REBOOT)… Not Restart … THEN The USB-ports LOOSES it’s Power ( YOUR DISK will shut Down ) ( Same thing as if you try to “Shut Down HA” It will Shut down the disk as well, AS your disk is powered from HA’s USB)
So a REBOOT is a “Shut Down-Start Up” (BOOT)
When Your HA “Start UP” again in the REBOOT procedure, it powers on the USB-Ports again.
However Your “Dumb SSD Case” have a start-button ( Meaning it doesn’t start up automatically when it gets power from i.e a USB Port ) You have to use the Button !
Button Line, HA does what it suppose to, and can’t send i.e a “Click Start Button” on your SSD-Disk-Case ( Impossible )
Off Topic:
The Power supply which comes with HA-Green, Provides 1A(Amp), And surely an SSD can run on only 1A, But you won’t gain it’s full capacity ( You can verify this your self, by reading the specs of Your Disk, it most likely will only “perform” halfway of it’s full capacity. ( As you (the powersupply) Only provide 1A.
You will eventually sooner than later get other problems cause of this.
So, Buy a separate power-supply for you SSD & Dump the Dumb SSD-Case, You don’t want a case with a start button ( If it’s not so smart so it will Start Up when Power is Provided , Which kind of makes a “Start-Button” Redundant )
