HA TTS to phone? Even possible?

This is probably a stretch, but I’m wondering if we can have HA TTS to our phones and have our phones actually speak the response.

My thinking is for HA automations or alerts when I’m not home. I have my Alexa’s respond to most things easily, and also notify me of things etc, but while driving, always having to open the mobile msg to see the alert is a pain. It would be really cool to have it speak instead. Siri, Alexa, Google whatever.

This even possible?

There might be a couple of options but nothing straightforward that I know of.

One way might be to have HA send you an SMS message that your car can then read out like other text messages. If you have that capability, that is.

Another way might be to use Tasker (if you have an Android). I’ve not really used it but supposedly it can do pretty much anything on your phone if you can figure out how to set it up.

I have the HA app notifications read out to me while driving on an Android phone using a third party app Out Loud that I’ve used for years.
It will pretty much read any app’s notifications as required.
I enable / disable this using a Tasker profile, but you can enable / disable based on a particular Bluetooth connection.

you could try Amaxon Alexa and announce to the device (whichever phone you have the alexa app installed on) you would most probably need to keep the app open, havent tried this, otherwise, depending on what you want to announce you could create an mp3 file and have this played… if it is a dynamic announcement (from sensor readings) this obviously won’t work

I’m on IOS (but my radio headunit is android), but the SMS idea could maybe work; as I use CarPlay when driving. I’ll look into what the Android side of my headunit can run in the background while CarPlay is running

Yeah that announce to this device thing never really works unless the Alexa app is open. I have other apps I use while driving, like gps or music etc. the mp3 wouldn’t work because the alerts and automations are custom to a lot of different things. I’d have to make 20 mp3 files. Not practical for my needs.

My phone is IOS, but my radio headunit is a 7” android touch screen. I’ll look into this and see if I can incorporate it. Thanks
