I’m new to Linux but I thought I’d give it a go to run a Home Assstant server. I have tried multiple tutoriuals on trying to get this going with no success on Ubuntu Server 22.10. I know I’m being pretty broad but each command seems to work but with a few errors, some of them seem to be dependancies. I had no issues setting up plex but can’t get Home Assistant running.
Is there a reason why you specifically want Home Assistant Core on Ubuntu? Assuming you want to use the server for other things, Proxmox is a much easier path, as it has a suite of helper scripts for Home Assistant. I would recommend installing Home Assistant OS VM instead, as this comes with AddOns plus more.
Thanks Michael, I have no experience with Linux but would you be able to expand on your previous message. I didn’t know there was differenet versions but on advice from a co-worker thats in IT, he recommended that I don’t run virtual machine as it would assign dedicated resources from the limited amount I have. Its a I5 3470 3.2ghz with 16gb of ram, hence he recommended that I don’t use the GUI as it would take up additional resources and once its done, it’ll be sitting in a back wardrobe once setup. At this point I just want to run Home Assistant and Plex.
I did ask him about Docker but with no Linux experience, he recommended against it. He’s right so far as this is a big learning curve. Any advice would be appreciated.
