HA won't boot anymore. What should I do?

I’m having some trouble getting my HA instance to work after a reboot. I’ve had a notification that I had a pending HA OS update for some time now. I tried several time to install it but it never worked. Today I thought giving the system a reboot might fix it, but I was very wrong. Now the system won’t boot at all.

My setup:
RPi 4 with a SD card with HA OS
A few months ago I transferred my system using the HA UI to an SSD using this guide: Common Tasks - Operating System - Home Assistant
I had google drive backup running but it seems that it stopped working a few months ago

When I try to boot with both the SD and the SSD, nothing really happens. the green led blinks a few times and then stops.

I was able to mount both disks to my Mac and can see the backups on the SSD from today, but these are really small. The last bigger backup is from august first. How should I handle this? Is there any way to use a backup to get it all running again?

Thanks for your help!

Have you hooked a monitor up to see if/what the log is saying on the screen?

Thanks for the quick answer. When no SD card is inserted but the SSD is connected, it says there are no bootable partitions. When I insert the SD card the screen goes black.
