I’m hoping to get some help with my Home Assistant Yellow. I installed it about four months ago with a standard HassOS setup and had been keeping it updated. I’m not sure of the exact version at this point since I can no longer access the interface.
The issue is that I’ve suddenly lost connection to my HA Yellow. The red light is steady, and the yellow light is blinking, but I can’t reach it through any means. Here’s what I’ve tried:
Local access: Browsing to http://homeassistant.local:8123/ on my Windows machine (using Firefox, Edge, and Chrome) results in a “site cannot be found” message. I’ve confirmed my VPN is off.
Nabu Casa remote access: The long Nabu Casa link with the unique string followed by “ui.nabu.casa/auth” gives a “Secure Connection Failed” error (PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR). This seems related to the message in my Nabu Casa login which now states: “Remote UI, Your instance is not connected to Home Assistant Cloud, Remote address: Not available”.
Power cycle: I’ve rebooted the HA Yellow by power cycling it, but there’s no change.
For clarity, I was previously able to access it just fine from my local Windows machine, using the Nabu Casa link, and from my mobile phone. Then, suddenly, nothing.
Any insights or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this connection issue would be greatly appreciated!
OK. I followed the referenced guide, but I have hit a snag identifying the port used. In my Device Manager it doesn’t clearly say what com port it is using. Here is a snip of what the Device Manager says and what the Properties are.
Maybe reboot HA yellow after it is connected to the USB cable.
Might want to check your router to see the IP address associated with the HA Yellow. Does it exist, is it different form before, try connecting using that address?
If all else fails, reinstall Home Assistant and apply your most recent backup (that you should have stored off of the HA Yellow).
We have a winner. For the benefit of those who may come after …
You have to install the driver. And you cannot just leave it to Windows. It won’t find it. You have to go find it, download it, and install it. Then you will get this:
I started with MaxK’s instructions.
I then had a problem getting the computer to communicate with the HAY. I had to find an updated driver for my Bridge Controller and tell Device Manager to update it. Just a Google Search once I figured that out.
Then I went back to MaxK’s instructions and I was able to get to the login as I showed above.
Unfortunately, I was never able to get my login to work. Never figured out why.
So, I eventually did a factory reset on the HAY using this video: https://youtu.be/8TWkwoFbrz4
Interestingly, I did the reset and expected to have to go create a new log in and then download my backup of my HAY instance. But when I went to log into my HAY I decided to give my old login a shot one last time. It worked. And my entire instance was there running just fine.
No idea what happened but I am not looking a gift horse in the mouth.
