HADashboard and battery usage on an e-reader

I recently got myself a cheap Kobo Clara HD e-reader to use as a Home Assistant display. It’s mostly there to display the time and some temperatures as well as to allow some basic controls.

I made myself a custom skin suited to the eink display. It’s really a credit to HADashboard that I went from installing it to having all this working in a couple of hours.

I’ve noticed that the Kobo’s battery is only lasting about 24 hours. Does anyone here have experience with these and have any tips on how to reduce power consumption?

As far as I’m aware the main power draw on these is screen updates. So the first thing I’m trying is to reduce those by reducing the precision of the temperature displays to whole degrees and filtering the temperatures in Home Assistant to remove noise.

It could just be that the Kobo web browser isn’t very efficient, in which case I suppose I’ll have to live with a power cable going to the device. Or learn Qt and develop my own Home Assistant UI for it…
