Just wondering if anyone knows if its possible to integrate HA with a sort of switch that has a dial to increase or decrease fan velocity. I see there are some ceiling fans that have this support, but I am looking at an inline duct fan similar to this: Amazon.com : VIVOSUN Z8 8 Inch Inline Duct Fan, 740 CFM Ventilation Fan with Variable Speed Controller for Grow Tent, Indoor Garden Ventilation, Black : Tools & Home Improvement. It doesn’t have to be this model but I would be willing to cut the cable and plug it into something if theres support for it.
This is for a PC fan but the same should apply to a duct fan setup.
The other option is to try use a smart dimmer switch setup to control it if it can be wired to its controller that it comes with and get it working that way to control it via HA.
Else you can look into relay board setups for on/off stated for locked in speeds for each setting.
Thank you!
For 110VAC fan?
Someone with more experience can state if they have a working setup hence why I said should not would, I should clarify that next reply I make.
OP needs to present specs of the fan. I expect the one he linked has triac control, but can’t be sure…
It looks to list a variable controller that comes with it so you would tie into it for the control into HA via the various options.
I have one setup like that, because I was not able to find 3kW AC power controller (with reasonable price) … Working great for few years now
I bet for triac…
The listing shows it can be used in Intake or Exhaust modes so yes.
Im confused, it looks like the questions were answered but not entirely sure. Let me know if theres questions I missed
We were just making sure we have all bases covered with these types of duct fans since I only did a quick lookup of options based on recent history for these things to get things started.
I have my exhaust fan in the bathroom tied to the ceiling light so its only an on/off state for it no variable speeds as such I use a simple smart light switch to setup a timer for when its on and to turn it on when humidity hits a certain level.
My goal is to integrate all that I can into HA, right now the fan I currently have is Smart Life, my research (who knows still could be wrong) shows that its not supported by HA. I also have a few other things I would like to integrate as time goes on - one is my garage door opener but I believe that support was just pulled due to the makers (cant remember who atm, sorry) being a holes and constantly changing it to make sure it breaks.
edit: GitHub - tuya/tuya-smart-life: Tuya Smart Life Home Assistant Integration
That looks to be new. When I get home Ill look into it
Smartlife is the alternate app to the Tuya main app for Tuya Wifi based devices… we (well more so I) recommend folks to stay away from the Tuya wifi version of devices as they are reliant on the internet connection to work at all so if you have an internet issue or you need to do maintenece on your network then they are basically bricked until internet connection returns.
Tuya zigbee versions are more than fine to use as they are fully local for all functions.
The other issue with TW versions is that it can be a pain in the arse to deal with the dev portal side of things and getting device ID"s through older app versions to get local only intergrations working so its more for those that are willing to put in the time and effort to break TW to get it working lol.
There are also other manufacturers out there that have reskinned versions of the Tuya app when you see it has the same layout so you’ll know if its not worth it at all.
As for that smartlife intergration it works exactly the same as the tuya one, you set it up, sign in with your tuya/smartlife account then scan the QR code to confim via the app.
Only reason I keep this around atm is I have some lenovo branded smart plugs I bought before investing in zigbee and I was testing a lock I bought lol
Oh and as for the garage door… you might be thinking of MyQ… they have been dragged accross the coals for the about face and essentially spitting into the face of customers that had it installed, RATGDO is designed to make those work again in HA.
