In Debian Linux there is a package called “popularity contest” whose only purpose is to catalog what you have installed, and report back to Debian so they know what software people use most.
How cool would it be if you could do the same in HA (with the same anonymization and consent of course).
Is there a way to share one’s “library” of connected devices, without serial/MAC/IP info? And then when when someone is curious about a specific model they can browse those publicly aggregated results. Maybe even submit a question about that device and the device owners who have asked to be notified would see the question?
Imagine one thread in this Discourse server for every known device that has ever been used with HA, and those who want to share their knowledge of it or ask questions of it have a canonical place to go for HA and that device!
We could use tags to organize it too, so you could narrow the threads down by device type and capability. if you’re looking for a 3-way switch with dimming etc. Parametric search!
