Hass.io in a Docker container?

This has been asked elsewhere but I didn’t see any updated answers or answers that completely addressed the question.

I have an unraid server that I’d like to run hass.io on vs on my RPi2 for performance reasons and easier manageability.

There is a regular HASS image that I’ve gotten to run properly but it doesn’t have the handy addons menu/capability that HASS.io has which id like to use.

Am I just out of luck and have to use one or the other?

The add-ons are merely other docker containers. You can do all the same things yourself with a little more work and time. I personally prefer being in total control of my entire stack and am not willing to go down the hassio route (I did try it out a few months ago, but found it too limiting).

I run HASS.io in a “regular” Docker environment on my Linux server, just follow the directions on the site https://home-assistant.io/hassio/installation/

I run Hassio on virtualbox running Debian 9, installed hassio also via above URL.
