Hass.io ZWave Pairing

Hi,
I have an aeotec gen-5 z-stick. The advice i’ve read regarding pairing is to do it via the z-wave panel.
Given that I have a z-wave capable smart-lock how am I meant to action this? The advice for the lock is to pair at 2m range max…

Regards,
David

Did you figure this out? There’s zero documentation that I can find on the ‘Z-Wave Network Management’ / Z-Wave Control Panel/Page thing within hass.io, and clicking “add node” helpfully informs via a pop up that ‘add node’ has been called but there’s nothing else at all lol.

EDIT: I’d already tried to pair (apparently successfully) a second Fibaro motion sensor to my Aeotec stick. In Hass.io there was a “node 4” but without any details at all. I clicked ‘Add Node’ and manually refreshed the “OCZ” log from the web interface until I felt like it had stopped, then rebooted hass.io and it seems to have picked it up properly this time.

I have a Pi3 running hass.io and a gen5 z-stick. My first z-wave device is a wall toggle switch. I cannot get it to add via the control panel in hass.io.

I see in the log that the add_node call is being made and that the controller is waiting, but nothing happens when I trigger the inclusion on the switch (toggle on).

When you click add node in the control panel, should the z-stick flash blue as if you used its button? Mine stays in disco mode through the whole process. The Pi with z-stick and the wall switch are only 6 ft apart.

I’ve already factory reset the controller and switch a couple of times to ensure a fresh add, but no luck so far. Any advice?

Thanks!
Eric

I also wonder about this. To explain a bit more from my perspective:

I have a hass.io installation on vmware, using a aeotec z-wave USB stick.
I have enabled encryption in hass.io for z-wave. This encryption key is stored within home assistant.

Right now I have only paired a wireless motion sensor, which I could have close to the z-wave stick when pairing, which worked fine.

But now I want to pair a aeotec nano dimmer, which is installed behind the light switch in my living room.
How would I get this paired? I read that pairing is not possible when the Z-wave controller does not have a direct connection to the device to be paired (cannot be forwarded thorough another device)

I know that I could remove the z-wave stick and as it has a battery in it, hold it clos to the light switch and click th button on the USB stick. But the encryption key is not stored on it as far as I know, so how could it do a secure pairing?

Use the ‘Add Node Secure’ option.

Hi!

I am unsure if you read my entire post, as it said that I had already successfully added devices. The problem was rather when the device to be added is very far away from the Z-wave controller. One example being a aeotec nano dimmer that is to be installed behind a light switch in the other end of the house. When adding a secure device it needs to have a direct connection from the controller. Going via another z-wave device is not allowed during pairing.

I think you can bring the device close to your controller and pair, then put the device in it’s final location and heal the network.

portable Powerbank powering the pi when pairing?

The device is connected to the electric wiring in the wall, so that is kind of hard : )

My first post mention me running this on vmware, not a Pi. Otherwise a good idea that might work for others.

As far as I know, there is not a requirement to bring the devices in close contact to do the secure pairing. My devices are spread across the house, and I do not move them to do the secure pairing.
