HASS speaker for announcements in 2024

Hello, I would like to purchase a few <$50/each speakers in 2024 for various different rooms of the house to do announcements (door is open, dryer has finished cycle, etc). They need to be 100% local, and can be wired ethernet (not even necessarily PoE but that would be nice), zigbee, or wifi. I havent been able to find a real clear suggestion or list of suggestions to this.

In a 1-line answer, what type of speaker or speaker “kit” do I need to purchase?

I’m looking for the same. Loud enough for annoucements, 100% local. I’m currently using Amazon echo devices, but they are cloud based and who knows when Amazon will cancel the program… I want to be independent.
Maybe an ESP with a small amplifier and a speaker in a simple 3d printermade box. I really wonder that the “year of voice” has not provided such a hardware!

My gut feeling is that there will be some kind of official voice hardware released at some point…

I’m looking for exactly the same thing to play chime sounds and announcements in the kitchen. No need for a mic; just a speaker will do.

There’s gotta be something out there, right?

If all you need is a speaker with to hear audio in various rooms for announcements then look to getting some chromecast audios (if you can find them second hand since they don’t make them anymore or just get a chromcast and add in a HDMI audio extractor to allow direct plug in of 3.5mm and coaxial speaker setups) or general casting devices to plug into the speakers you place where you need them and just have HA cast to them with the notification at the set volume level.

I currently use hass agent to control media playback and volume on my nuc and pc in my setup: GitHub - LAB02-Research/HASS.Agent: Windows-based client for Home Assistant. Provides notifications, quick actions, commands, sensors and more.
