Once I finished the manual install from this page:
and got the (homeassistant) $ in a terminal window.
Type: hass
The screen will start a flow info data. This is hass debug data.
Than go to firefox and do the [IPofRasberry:8123

There is not a single thing you can do with hassio that you can’t do with homeassistant, but if you specifically wanted hassio then that’s what you needed to install.
You can’t go to a shop, buy a Samsung TV and then call it useless because it doesn’t have a Sony badge on it.
All I’ve done is reply to your comments in an attempt to point out that you do not have a ‘pretty useless’ system.
In fact, if you’ve successfully completed the manual install you have already demonstrated more than enough ability to use homeassistant without the hand-holding that hassio offers.
It’s up to you what system you run, makes no difference to me whatsoever.
I started this thread about the hass.io image. This new-be thought the hass.io image was a complete home-assistant install, which I never got to work. Because it did not work, I used the manual install thinking it would provide the same thing. I guess I am still confused as to what the purpose of the hassio image.
Thank you, that helps a lot. Hass.io is not for me. I would love to do it the manual way because you learn the ins and outs of the system. I will start with Hassbian for now until I learn more.
