Hassio ssh command

Hello, everyone. When I was using Hassio’s SSH, I found out that she didn’t support apt &yum, so what instructions did he use? Or does he only have these instructions?

As far as I understand it, Hassio is a non-command line based version of Home Assistant, whereas with Hassbian or Home Assistant on Raspbian you do have this freedom.

I don’t know whether this is right, but since I see a lot of questions of this type and I assume there is confusion and misunderstanding about what Hassio is and is not, also compared to Hassbian or the other installation options, I would like to suggest @pvizeli or @balloob to make something like a comparison between the pro’s and cons of each installation on the main website, and make it easy accessible. This to avoid the many questions about features Hassio does or doesn’t support/have. I think this is also related to the many questions in the Hassio Discordchannel about command line.

Anyway, they can answer your question much more in-depth.

Good luck!

I have the same doubt.

Thank you very much for your reply. I also gradually realized that hassio is more suitable for people who don’t like in-depth study or access to more permissions. I love freedom, so I changed back to hassbian

If you have such a problem, then you are as fond of in-depth research as I am

There are some elements of Alpine Linux, so you can try to look at their docs. Alpine uses apk manager. But, all installed components will revert after reboot, so your changes are not permanent.

I’d also welcome some instructions how to dig a bit deeper.

Funny thing is, I have come across a few people suggesting how to log into the docker container, but docker commands are not available after installing hassio as an image, as described.

Thank you for your response, so I’m now trying to write addons to do what I need

Hello All

I’m fairly new to to Home assistant and have installed Hass.io on my RPi 3. All the tutorials I find on setting up MQTT is done via SSH and various commands, which isn’t recognized on Hass.io. Could anyone please give advice on how one would set it up since you can’t execute normal SSH commands with Hassio?

Thanks in advance

It’s all in the docs

Hi Quintin, I have been having this same issue. Did you ever figure it out?

Hi GigEmAgs

Yes I did, I just can’t recall exactly how I did it as it was about 1,5 years ago, lol.
Im on a 3 week business trip at the moment, I will try to check when I get home and send a solution.
Good luck
