I have come into possession of a yellow device after a relative who passed away. I don’t know his username or password. Should the device just be scrapped, or is there a solution?

Aside from the advice of fleskefjes: if that device is personalized with dashboards, devices and automations, it does not make any sense in trying to use the current setup since you will get a lot of errors and there will be not much that works.

I have allredy made a reboot of the unit to empty all data. But i cant find anyway how to change the username.
A reboot alone won’t do it. You must follow the reset process above Chris posted and in the process it will let you create a user account and credentials.
Excuse a beginner but i don´t understand point 2:

Alternatively you can just run ha os datadisk wipe via the CLI through keyboard & monitor/serial.

and just wipe it with thismethod, i think you are either doing sonething wtong in resetting - this will help you to make sure it is clearly resetted or not
just follow the CONSOLE ACCESS part with a keyboard
