Have to reconfigure after each update

Hello to everybody. First post but long, long time reader.

I have HA installed as a docker on my Synology NAS DS920+. I use Watchtower to automatically update HA with the newest release. However, it looses all the devices, areas, etc after each update and I have to reconfigure everything.

I have not seen any posts on this issue so I wonder what I can do to prevent this from happening.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply. I just don’t know how to do that. I can follow instructions if you are so kind and can provide them. Thank you in advance.

I do not run a container install and know little about Docker, someone else will have to help you. The installation instructions say this:

https://www.home-assistant.io/installation/alternative#synology-nas

In fact there are a few other settings in those instructions you need to do as well. Follow the link above and work through the list of instructions starting after

"Click on “Launch”

Rather than us guessing what you have done,
tell us how you set it up. In detail.

Yeap! I think I’m missing a few of the steps. I’m going to have to recreate the image again from scratch. Thank you.

The problem is that I’m not even sure. I followed a couple of YouTube videos on how to install it, but it looks like the majority of the instructions out there are obsolete. Now, it doesn’t even let me login with the same username and password I’ve always used.

These are the videos I used:
Installing Home Assistant In Docker On A Synology NAS (youtube.com)

Home Assistant - Initial Setup (youtube.com)

Don’t follow anything but the official documentation, linked above.

So, start from scratch following the instructions on the link you guys provided?

Well in the first clip it clearly shows where you set up a volume on the Synology for your configuration. Starts at around 7:20. It shows where it this config it is set, and that it needs to be r/w. You can check yours.

Please don’t close this topic, give me a few days to figure it out and post back. I just had a shoulder implant surgery and need a few days before I can use the keyboard/mouse effectively. Took me a few minutes just to write this message. Thank you.

Good luck and rest that shoulder!! You are in no danger of the thread being closed.
