Having issues with HAV PE turning on light group

I’ve got a bar area that has light strips under the bottles grouped into a light group called “Backbar Lights”. I’ve exposed this entity to HA Voice. When I say “Turn on/off Backbar Lights”, it responds “I’m not aware of any area called Backbar”. My Backbar Lights are just one set of lights in my bar, so I don’t want to create a new area just called “BackBar”, as I want to be able to say “turn off all bar lights” (which works!). I’ve also given this entity an alias of “Backbar”, so I should be able to say “Turn on/off backbar”, and just have this light group turn on/off. Is this not correct? Am I wildly misunderstanding how HA Voice works? I’ve definitely exposed the light group to HA Voice (in fact, I’m overexposing entities while I try to configure everything).

I’m using Home Assistant Voice PE as my device.
Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

my guess is VPE is trying to turn the lith of a area that do not exist
try changing the name to “Backbar strip”

The name of the light group entity? The light group entity consists of 6 strips, all of which I want to turn on when I say “turn on backbar lights”. The light group is in the “Bar” area. Apologies for being unclear.

Do any of your aliases include space like ‘back bar’

It may not be catching backbar as a single word. You can review the chat debug logs in settings > voice assistant

No, they don’t. If I use my Google mini/home, it finds and turns on/off Backbar lights perfectly. If I use HA Voice PE, it seems to only look for the area, and not at individual entities for the alias/name?

It does both. How matches work are different if you use LLMs but if you have handle local first it should be the assist pipeline trying to match.

From what I’ve seen it splits every thing it thinks is a word… Back. Bar. So If there’s no back bar alias or name… It might be that. Debug will show you. Look at the voice pipeline and if your see ‘back’ and ‘bar’ but no ‘backbar’ that’s probably part of the issue.

That was the issue. It divided what I was saying into “Back Bar”, I changed the alias to “Back Bar” and “Back Bar Lights”, and it worked! Thanks for your help! Now who wants a bourbon?
