HBS Bridge: local MQTT controller for Hisense Hi-Therma heat pumps

I’m Alessio, and I’ve been working for more than a year on integrating Hisense Hi-Therma heat pumps with Home Assistant. The result is HBS Bridge: a small local controller that connects to the Hisense H-Net bus and exposes the heat pump to Home Assistant through MQTT autodiscovery.

What it does:

  • local control, no cloud dependency
  • MQTT autodiscovery for Home Assistant
  • mode, zones and DHW setpoint control
  • temperature and diagnostic readings
  • OTA firmware updates

I originally built it because there was no official Home Assistant integration for these units. The protocol work is documented here:

The controller has been tested on AHZ-080CDS1. Other Hi-Therma models should be compatible, but I’m especially interested in feedback from owners of different units.
This is a small hardware batch, so yes, units are available for purchase, but I’m mainly posting here to share the project, get feedback, and find other Hisense Hi-Therma users willing to test compatibility.

Great project — exactly what I was looking for! I’m about to install a Hi-Therma split 14 kW (AHW-140HEDS1 + AHM-140HEDSAA) in Poland and I’m very interested in HBS Bridge, since there’s no other local HA integration for these units.

A few questions before I order:

1. Split compatibility
You mention testing on the AHZ-080CDS1 (monoblock). Has anyone tested HBS Bridge on the split series (AHW/AHM-HEDS) yet? I understand the H-Net bus is available on the TB4 terminal (A/B) of the indoor unit’s PCB4 in split models — is the connection procedure the same as for monoblocks? I’m happy to be a tester for the 14 kW split and report back if that helps.

2. Full entity list
Could you share the complete list of entities HBS Bridge exposes via MQTT autodiscovery? Specifically I’d like to know:

  • climate entities — one per zone? (I’ll run 2 zones: underfloor + radiators)
  • DHW setpoint — is it writable from HA? (I want to automate “PV surplus → raise DHW target”)
  • which temperature sensors are available (flow, return, outdoor, DHW tank)?
  • diagnostics — defrost state, backup heater state, compressor frequency, error codes?

3. Coexistence with SG Ready
I plan to use the pump’s SG Ready inputs (i-02/i-10) for tariff-based control via a relay. Does HBS Bridge work alongside that without conflicts, since it’s read/write on the H-Net bus?

4. Ordering & shipping
Is shipping to Poland available, and what’s the current lead time for the hardware batch?
