First post. Let me know if I can make the post more clear in any way.
Issue: Heating does not work (cooling and fan both work).
Story: My Honeywell T6 Z-Wave Thermo was originally connected to an IQ Panel which could be managed on the Alert.com platform. It was pre-installed in the new house and worked fine through the platform and on the thermo. I did not want to pay for the subscription fee after the two-year free trial so I tried moving to HA yesterday. I had to set the thermo to factory setting because it cannot be excluded easily (error message “failed to exclude”) from IQ. Then I included it using the Zooz 800 Z-Wave stick connected to the HA Green. The thermo was successfully connected to HA through my Android mobile app without any problem. Cooling and fan both work whether I adjust them in the app or on the thermo. However, heating seemed not connected no matter I raised the temperature on the app or directly on the thermo. I confirmed my thermo setting with my neighbor. Also tried factory reset another time. The problem still remains. The heat was not turned on for the whole night.
If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Much appreciated!
I have a T6 in my apartment, and I’ve found that there is no way from HA to set the climate mode to AUTO (i.e. it heats if it’s too cold and cools if it’s too hot). On the thermostat card on my dashboard, I added the climate modes as a feature, then I could change between heating and cooling. You might try that and see if changing it to HEAT mode will get you heat.
If I was staying in this apartment longer, I’d probably figure out a way to automate between heating and cooling based on the outdoor temperature, but we’re moving in a couple months, and we’ll be doing nothing but heating between now and then, so it didn’t seem like it was worth the effort.
Thanks for your reply. I can adjust Heat and Cool on HA for the thermostat. However, no matter how high I raise the temperature in Heat mode, the furnace does not turn on. I feel like it is not about HA or the thermostat but some glitch on the furnace such that it won’t start on the thermo’s command. I checked the circuit breaker and it was fine. Still trying to figure out why. But thanks for your input!
Does the thermostat say it is calling for heat but the furnace just isn’t turning on? If that is the case is it possible the heat wire got knocked loose while you were factory resetting the thermostat?
It is exactly as you described, and I am wondering the same thing. I did not open the thermo when excluding/including it so it is unlikely I messed up the physical wires inside/behind the thermo display, but who knows. My water is heated by gas and I still have hot water okay so must be some setting that prevent the triggering of the gas heating when the thermo turns it on…
Thanks anyway! I’ve called a HVAC guy to come check things out. I’ll post what we find.
Thanks guys. I figured it out. Obviously my heat type is “Heat pump” and after factory reset the default heat type was selected to “Conventional”. After switching to “Heat pump” in the Device Setep, things work normal again. So no hardware/wire issues, just incorrect thermo setup that cannot trigger the heat pump.
