Heiman Smoke Detector battery discharging. Is_active keeps going true

hi

I am new to HASS and I recently installed 2 days ago a Heiman Technology Co. Ltd Smart Smoke Sensor (HS1SA-Z) and it initially showed as 100% in the battery level indicator within HASS. It now shows up as 86% and the battery is designed to last 3 years!! Checking in HASS and under entities ‘zwave.heiman_technology_co_ltd_smart_smoke_sensor_hs1sa_z_2’ it is showing as ‘Initializing (Probe)’ and is_awake ‘True’ . IsReady is showing as ‘false’.

The smoke detector is battery only so looking at another post on here it mentions a battery PIR sensor has ‘is_awake = False’. Could that be the reason for the unexpected battery drain if mine is set to true?

I did try to change the state values so that is_active = false and this did initially work but this morning the values have gone back to their default I presume when the smoke sensor woke up and communicated with HASS. Trying again and Is_active after 24 hours keeps going back to true.

Is the sensor waking up then isn’t going back to sleep hence the battery loss or is it a problem with the sensor? Is this something which can be resolved using HASS? Does HASS actually talk to the sensor and change any of its internal state values as when I set Is__active to False the battery seems not to discharge.

This is the output on the right hand side in HASS when it wakes up every day:

Hi,

I don’t have anything to say about the specific setup or problem, and to complicate things I am currently facing a problem on my setup that means I cannot check mine - but I wanted to add my 2 cents worth since I happen to have the same devices.

The battery lifetime of 3 years is super optimistic. I have heard that the more realistic number is more like 6-12 months. This varies a lot base on many factors, but I can imagine that the broadcast/signal levels will be a big part of this.

The actual percentage goes up and down by a reasonable amount based on local environmental factors (temp mostly).

I have about 6 of these in use for ± 6 months and none of them have run out of battery yet. But from memory one is at ~40% at the moment. This often fluctuates with about ~20%, but over time stabilises. (I cannot confirm right now as my devices are unreachable due to another unrelated issue)… My telegram notification for low battery has gone off once about 3 weeks ago, but been silent since.

Hope this helps a little bit.
