I am looking for advice on how to integrate the last set of lights in my house into Home Assistant. It’s a single switch that controls two sets of dimmable lights: six recessed lights and a small chandelier. Specifically, I have a two gang box with two switches, on the right is a single switch that controls two sets of dimmable lights which I am trying to upgrade. See image below.
I’ve been unable to find a single smart switch that can control two separate dimmable lights. I’ve considered using two Shelly Dimmer2s, but am concerned about available space in the electrical box. Aside from expanding to a three-gang box (which I’d rather avoid), are there any other options?
I primarily use Hue, Inovelli, and Aqara devices, and I’d prefer not to introduce another hub if possible. I prefer Zigbee, but I’m open to Wi-Fi or Thread devices. (Although I’ve found a few Z-Wave switches, unfortunately Z-Wave options are off the table as I don’t have a Z-Wave network).
I prefer not to replace all the lights controlled by this switch with Hue bulbs—it’d cost around $550 for the six recessed lights and chandelier. My goal is to upgrade the switch itself, not the bulbs. I’m also not overly concerned about the smoothness of the dimmer. My main goal, for smart lights in general, and specifically for this switch, is to minimize the need for manual operation with automations and presence detection. I already have extra presence sensors and PIR sensors available that I would install in the room for automation purposes.
Does anyone have any recommendations or advice on how to handle this last switch?
