HELP! Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 cannot configure

I am running Home Assistant in Virtual Box (Windows 10 PC) and just picked up a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 Dongle Plus.

I have figured out how to pass thru the USB device, and HA recognizes it. The ZHA integration is available and I select the Dongle to configure it. It asks whether I want to restore or create a new network, then everything goes wrong.

Within a few seconds, the VM becomes unresponsive (Windows is OK) and I have to force restart it. I don’t know how to get any logs since I’m new to using a VM.

I have the Dongle plugged into an extension. I’m on HA Core 2024.8.1 and HAOS 13.0

You would have to login to the VM by either using the console or ssh, then you should be able to get the logs.

I managed to resolve this issue by switching the USB settings in VirtualBox from USB 2.0 to USB 3.0.

I was given the impression USB 3.0 and Zigbee is a bad combination. I have the dongle plugged into a USB 2.0 port on the motherboard…

In any case, seems to be a VirtualBox issue
