Help: SwitchBot Bot Integration Failing with Home Assistant Yellow – Bluetooth & Matter Issues!

Hey everyone,

I’m really struggling to integrate my SwitchBot Bot into my Home Assistant Yellow (HAY) and hope someone here can help me out!

My goal is to get the SwitchBot Bot into my existing Home Assistant network, ideally via Matter, but even the Bluetooth integration isn’t working. The SwitchBot Bot is intended to act as a door opener by pressing my intercom button.

My Current System Information:

  • SwitchBot Bot Firmware Version: V6.6
  • SwitchBot App Version: 9.13
  • Home Assistant Core Version: 2025.7.2
  • Home Assistant Supervisor Version: 2025.07.1
  • Home Assistant Operating System Version: 15.2
  • Home Assistant Frontend Version: 20250702.2

Important: I’ve already successfully connected other Bluetooth devices and Matter devices to my Home Assistant Yellow, and they’re working perfectly! Also, I can control my Home Assistant remotely via the Nabu Casa Cloud.

Bluetooth Problem: “No BT in Range”

Even though the SwitchBot Bot is right next to my Home Assistant Yellow and I’ve already connected it without issues to the official SwitchBot app, Home Assistant keeps reporting “No BT in range” when I try to add the SwitchBot integration.

I’ve already tried:

  • Restarting the bot.
  • Activating the bot’s pairing mode (long-pressing the button).
  • Restarting both Home Assistant and the HAY.

Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening or what settings I should check? Are there any known issues with the HAY’s Bluetooth or the SwitchBot integration in this setup?

Matter Problem: QR Code Error

I’d much prefer to connect the SwitchBot Bot via Matter to my HAY for a more future-proof and stable connection. However, I get an error when I scan the QR code on the device, which I assume is the Matter code.

According to the official Home Assistant integration page, the Matter connection should work without the SwitchBot Hub.

My questions about this:

  • Is my SwitchBot Bot with firmware V6.6 actually Matter-capable yet? Or do I need an upgrade kit or a hub for it?
  • Do I need to set up anything specific in Home Assistant for Matter before adding devices? My HAY is active as a Thread Border Router.
  • Could I be scanning the wrong QR code? Are there multiple codes on the device, and how do I identify the true Matter code?

I’m grateful for any help! If you need more information from me (e.g., exact error messages, screenshots of the scan attempt), I’m happy to provide them.

Thanks in advance!

Switchbot Bot is a Bluetooth device. It does not appear to have the WiFi or Thread-based IP connectivity required for direct Matter control.

SwitchBot advertises this device as “Matter compatible” because when paired with a SwitchBot Hub2, the hub acts as a Matter bridge for any connected Bluetooth devices.

So if you have the hub, HA can send Matter-over-WiFi commands to the hub, which converts them into proprietary-over-Bluetooth commands to the Bot.

If you don’t have the hub, HA may be able to directly send Bluetooth commands using the Switchbot Bluetooth integration. You would need BLE proxies to extend the reach of Bluetooth if the Bot is more than a few feet from your server.

Edited to add — according to this article, HAY doesn’t have Bluetooth connectivity built in, so you need a proxy device.

Same problem here.
I reported it and waiting for solution.

Thanks for the clarification! You’re absolutely right about the Bluetooth. I did install an antenna on my Home Assistant Yellow, but maybe it needs some driver updates or specific configuration to work optimally. I’ll look into that.

It’s definitely a bit misleading with the “Matter compatible” advertising if a SwitchBot Hub is still required. That’s a crucial detail that isn’t immediately obvious. It makes sense now why the direct Matter integration wasn’t working.

I appreciate you clearing that up! I’ll investigate the Bluetooth proxy option or consider getting a Hub if the direct Bluetooth doesn’t pan out.
