I have a light in my porch. It is controlled by an aqara Switch in the garage.
This switch is also controlled by an aqara remote in the hallway.
I put a motion sensor in the upstairs hallway so if my kids wake up and wander out of bed the porch light comes on. I set an automation for this…I also did an automation for when the motion is cleared to turn the porch light back off again.
Now, the wife is getting upset that when you turn the light on from the downstairs switch why doesn’t it stay on all night (it turns off due to the ‘no motion detected’ state change of the motion sensor upstairs).
Is there a way of getting the no motion detected turn off the porch light to only work when the porch light was not manually turned on from the hallway remote?
Sounds to me like he is using the smart switch to turn the light on and off based on motion, so… If he did what you suggest, the light would never turn off?
Seems to be the better solution would be to use a boolean that gets set when the light is turned on while there’s no motion. Turn the light on manually, set the boolean to true. Then, only trigger the motion events (in either direction) if that boolean is false.
Don’t forget to have an automation triggered by turning the light off that sets the boolean back to false again…
Do you think it might work if I got rid of the turn off light when no motion detected altogether…and set the turn on light when motion detected duration to 2 mins?
I just saw that…it was right in front of me…looks like with no ‘turn off light when no motion’ automation but a 'only turn light on for 2mins when motion detected ’ might work?
I presume itll just retrigger if kids out of bathroom and back walking the landing?
Well, sure, but… If you and the wife have turned the light off and gone to bed, if the motion-activated turn on event does not have a way of turning the light off, then it’ll be on when you wake up in the morning.
