Help with custom config on hassio in docker

I ran the hassio_install on my rpi and it’s great. I can edit stuff in /usr/share/hassio/homeassistant which I understand translates to /config in the container. Now I want to add a custom Lovelace card, which references an image file (for a Tesla integration) and posts are showing /local/ or /www and I can’t make heads nor tails from it. This post looked promisingly helpful, but I can’t get there from where I am at. Need someone to help me connect the dots.

Please stop using the term hassio.

It has been called Home Assistant OS for well over a year.
