Hi all,
I have a few ESP devices running and keep seeing warnings regarding memory use etc when updating regarding the use of encryption.
I can’t figure out how to enable it without risking locking myself out of the device?
Can someone help with a little guidance please?

Your best chance for help is to show your yaml snd the error/warning.

You comment out the password in the ota: section and add encryption: following platform.
ota:
- platform: esphome
encryption:
# password: "xxxxxx"
PS: I assume you are using version 2026.9.0 or higher.

Your code says esp8266 not esp32.
