Helppppp! home assistant on fire hd 10

Hello all,
I’ve been doing the smart home thing for awhile but all my devices are ran through different apps so after researching HA seems like the best solution to centralize control of the house with a dedicated tablet.

That said I have purchase a Fire HD 10 as well as fully kiosk browser and have downloaded home assistant. The first thing I am prompt to do is enter my HA url. I’ve tried entering the ip address with the port as well as the http://hassio.local:8123 neither of these work so clearly I am doing something wrong. So my question is, is there a step by step instructions that someone has created on here that can walk me through getting this installed and working? I appreciate any help you all can provide!

Are you trying to install Home Assistant on your tablet? Most installs I’ve seen are either on a server or a dedicated Pi or NUC. Then use their tablet as an interface to the HA running on the Pi/NUC/server.

Yes that’s what I’m trying to do, I’ve considered just buying home assistant blue and bypassing this step entirely but those seem to be backordered with no known date as to when they will be available.

You can’t run HA on a tablet, or a phone.

You’d need to look at a Pi3 or better - even a second hand laptop/NUC/PC from the last decade will be better though, at least as long as it doesn’t have an Atom CPU.

I understant your issue. I too didnt fully understand how the whole ecosystem worked when i just started. Its not very easily explained too.

Home assistant is a system that is running on the platforms tinkerer mentioned. When its installed and booted up you can then go to the webpage you mentioned and register a user. after that you can start configure. In a simple way you could compare this with a webpage server. So you run it on a pc nuc or raspi and when it is fully loaded you can access it on every device in your network by putting in the localip + 8123 port on its webbrowser. After that you can let the server run and do everything from the webinterface

Thanks this helps, Pi4 ordered and will follow the installation process on the HA website.

so damn sexy
