I’ve got Hive and I have setup the hive component in configuration.yaml. I can see the relevant Hive thermostat / heating / hot water details. I can change the Hot Water and Heating operation mode on the entity pop up and checking the thermostat I can see that the change has worked. But if I try the same either through Services in Home Assistant or as part of an automation, the change isn’t taking effect.
Initially I am trying to turn both the Hot Water and Heating to ‘off’. Using the Services I have tried “operation_mode”:“OFF”, “operation_mode”:“Off” and “operation_mode”:“off”, but the Mode does not change on Hive. I have also tried “Manual”, “MANUAL” and “manual” and again no change. It’s got me totally confused as I would have expected it if works on the pop up card, it should work when doing the same through Services.
This is the service data used against climate.set_operation_mode:
If you look at your climate entity on the States page, it should show a list of valid options for operation_mode in the attributes column. E.g., for my Nest thermostat I see: operation_list: off, heat, cool, auto, eco. HA is mostly case sensitive, so you should use "off".
When you try changing the mode via the Services page, and it doesn’t work, do you see any errors on the Info page, or in the log?
I have tried off, Off and OFF and none of these work. No errors are seen when testing this through the Services page. Just tested again to make sure and definitely no errors, or relates messages.
Right, I think I’m just going to go back to bed! It is working, albeit just very, very slow. Must be down to the Hive though, as the rest of the Automations are pretty much instant.
Hi, Sorry to bump an old topic… but when you say it happened ‘Very, very slow’ what sort of timeframe are we talking?
I’m looking to get into smart heating and want buttons in each room to “boost” the heating for an hour, if we are talking a minute or so delay then that would be fine. If it’s more like 20mins then obviously that wont work for me and I’ll need to look at another thermostat. (currently the Hive is on offer on Amazon and hive’s site, £150 fully installed with a free Echo Dot)
Good to know! How are your batteries lasting? I’ve seen reports on the hive user forums that once the first lot die you need to replace them once a month…?
How does the thermostat communicate with the boiler connector? RF or WiFi?
(Crossing my fingers that it’s RF, otherwise I’ll need to wait until next year when I’ve fixed my WiFi issues in the back of the house…)
Not sure why it was slow before, but the boost is pretty much instant now. I’ve got a tablet in the hallway with a ‘boost’ button, and if I click it, I can hear the boiler turn on.
Batteries on my thermostat have been fine. Can’t remember length of time before I need to replace them, but it’s way longer than a month.
Not sure how the thermostat connects to the boiler. But I’ve got mine just round the corner from the boiler so no issues with connection.
I got it June last year and the battery is currently at 60%, so pretty good if replacements are only lasting a month i’d suggest people are buying cheap rubbish.
The hub does the connection between the stat and the controller using ZigBee and the hub uses Ethernet so no WiFi issues
That’s great. I’ve got a Tradfri setup (also Zigbee) so if I put one of the bulbs out there with the boiler it should be a similar distance to the hub at the router to check for range issues.
(its a Victorian terrace with a meter thick stone wall half way through it where an extension was built so even though its not Wifi I’d still need to check as the boiler is the other side of “the wall”)
