Hive - Removing the hub

Hi,

I’m running Hive, with a number of TRVs. Most are smart (i.e. Schedule, Heat on Demand, and a couple are dumb (i.e. leave on heat in those rooms I do not use much in the winter (i.e. sun room).

I’m looking into the option of removing the Hive Hub for the following 3 reasons:

  1. Last winter (it wouldn’t happen during the summer) I lost control of my hive system. Whatever happened, the kit went into meltdown and had I had intermittent control of various aspects. Having put my TRVs into child proof mode, this meant I was somewhat knackered. So, a reset of all TRVs and new kit (and oddly account as I could not terminate the account on my old kit).
  2. Heat on Demand is great, but the logic seems to have altered somewhat as never experienced this before. 2 TRVs are in colder rooms and bounce form on to off every few minutes as they hit the target temp, then drop .5 below. I am considering forcing the TRV to boost (say +2oc) for (say) 20 mins) so the room gets as much heat as possible rather than having limited flow through the TRV. Looks like a roller coaster but not sure if I am getting the efficiency I need, especially considering the TRVs are seemingly not opening fully whilst withing 1oc of the target temp.
  3. The temperature of a couple of TRVs are likely to be correct, given they sit next to the radiator (and are at ground level therefore subject the temperature fluctuations are outside doors are opened so I would like to consider using (optional) secondary temperature sensors (likely Sonoff Zigbee Temp / Humidity sensors) as a second opinion before deciding to cook the occupants of the room.

I run ZHA, but do not use a separate MQTT broker, however I can add Zigbee2MQTT very easily as another Proxmox VM. I’m running a Sonoff P dongle.

Ultimately I like the simplicity of Hive, but having been burnt last winter, I am conscious of another failure and the other items also compound the concern. At least if it’s my kit, then I have the chance of resolving it either with a backup HA, Dongle or whatever.

So, what do I want to know?

Fundamentally, what would I need and are there any ‘got ya’s’ I need to be aware of? Furthermore, my wife likes the Hive App. Are there an dashboards that allow a quick overview and action capability (i.e. Boost Downstairs, Boost Kids rooms etc?

Many Thanks.
