Home Assistant Addon: Tailscale

Hi,
This is an updated Tailscale addon for Home Assistant, as the previous one i was using wasn’t getting updated regularly enough for my uses.

As of today, the updated addon will deploy v1.92.3.

About

Tailscale
Tailscale is a Zero Trust identity-based connectivity platform that replaces your legacy VPN, SASE, and PAM and connects remote teams, multi-cloud environments, CI/CD pipelines, Edge & IoT devices, and AI workloads.

Installation

  1. Add the Hass.io add-ons repository to your home assistant instance.
  2. Install this add-on.
  3. Click the Save button to store your configuration.
  4. Search and add Tailscale from the addon store.
  5. Configure, then start the add-on.
  6. Check the logs of the add-on to see if everything went well.

Just checked, restarted the addon. Still shows Current version: 0.26.1

I’m curious, @boomam , what is/are the use cases where you would need v1.92.3 (… or any version newer than v1.88.1) at the moment (23-Dec-2025)?

@k8gg - for me, it comes down to a difference in philosophy around updates and security compared to the original.

Hi, is the addon itself exactly the same as the one from frenck?
As for me it gives some errors, which I don’t have in the Frenck’s one.

@tvds
Can you expand on what you mean by ‘exactly the same’ - Frenck didn’t create Tailscale or its binary, he just packaged it into a format Home Assistant uses via its Addon Store.
This addon does the same, just auto-updates.

Hi, thanks for clarification. That’s what I ment, it’s just done the same way as Frenck did. Great and many thanks for adding the auto-updates
