Home Assistant, ADT, and Raspberry Pi

I have an ADT system in my house. I want to connect and monitor my security system using Home Assistant.

ADT system has a box where all of my door, windows, and motion sensors are connected. I think I should be able to figure out and connect them all to Raspberry PI, but I need some guidance. How do I connect the ADT to my Home Assistant?

How do I monitor the status of the sensors?

Anyone can give me any tips?

I have the same question. my purpose is not replace ADT services, but use existing sensors to enhance automation.

i am hoping someome can point out rather these sensors use standard protocols such as zigbee or zwave, or something completely proprietary, or something in between like the way xiaomi does.

even if they uses standard protocols, i am not yet familiar with any of these mesh network to know rather it is possible to pair it with my own hub without disturbing existing services. any pointers will be appreciated.

I bought NodeMCU for $5 and connected it to my existing ADT. I monitor it using Home Assistant. In addition, using IFTTT, I receive text alerts every time one of my doors/windows opened or closed.

You cannot beat that price.

I guess I should say that the software that I use is ESP Easy: https://www.letscontrolit.com/wiki/index.php/ESPEasy

You need to find the actual manufacturer of the alarm panel. Open up the box (pick it w/ a rake if you don’t have the key - it should open even if you have zero lock picking skills) and figure out what the panel is.

ADT used to use Ademco (Honeywell) Vista series panels with rebranded keypads for a long time but I don’t know if they still do that. If that’s what it is, you can use an AlarmDecoder or Envisalink to connect the panel to HA. But - you need to be able to reprogram the panel to activate another keypad to do that. ADT also used to lock the panels down and not give the code to anyone - I’m pretty sure you can override that but it depends on the exact panel that you have.
