Home Assistant Android app error [Closed]

Hi,

I just installed HA Android app and the very screen asked for URL of HA instance. The phone is on home wifi and local LAN, so entered the LAN address of HA instance and getting following error:

Unable to connect to Home Assistant
Unable to communicate with Home Assistant because of SSL error. Please ensure your certificate is valid.

Just a simple question - I do not have a valid signed certificate by a CA, probably the best I can do is generate a self-signed one. Will that work or am I trying to do the impossible here?

Thanks!

According to this post, self-signed certificates won’t work : Can not connect to Home Assistant - #3 by dshokouhi
You should use your external URL

I found a workaround by using Ariela and then VPN (from home) back into the home network. This is working fine and I am using OpenVPN on the firewall. It also saved me the trouble of opening/configuring an open port on my own which can have its own risks.

Thanks for clarifications!
