Has anyone had any success using Home Assistant as an NVR? I was considering switching my security camera from motioneye to Home Assistant as my needs for it are very simple and I wanted to more easily integrate it with my dashboard/automations (e.g. only send notifications at certain times, display availability of the camera etc.). All I really need to do is:
- Display a stream of an FFmpeg URL - looks achievable with Stream and a picture element
- Detect motion from an FFmpeg URL - looks achievable with FFmpeg Motion
- A separate motion sensor might also be acceptable
- Record from an FFMPEG URL - looks achievable with FFmpeg Camera
However, when I tried to set all this up I found that none of these components worked reliably. The stream took a long time to load and froze and lagged even with the stream preloading thing enabled. The motion sensor failed to detect motion more often than not and eventually stopped working altogether, sometimes even across restarts. And the recording was prone to randomly failing as well. Everything works smoothly and and is much easier to set up in the various NVR solutions I’ve tried.
After searching around a bit it seems like I’m not the only one with similar issues. But most of the results I’m finding are pretty old. Has anyone had better results with this?
