Home Assistant backup very small and only restoring parts of the system

Hey there folks,
I’m currently in the process of migrating to a new system.
I wanted to make a snapshot of my machine and tried to restore this on the new system.
After restoring I wondered why the snapshot is only 29mb besides selecting the complete backup option.
The new machine is also lacking any configuration of addons and dashboards, the only thing that changed was the sidebar.

Previous backups have been succesfully restored on this machine, I moved from a docker install to my current setup (vm) and now to a proxmox container. The backup in the docker instance and the restoring in the vm worked flawlessly
Is it possible that homeassistant is bugged or is my machine/vm weird.
Kind regards,
Roman

I’d expect <40mb for a full backup if you aren’t using the SQLite database. my full backups are 15mb. And I have:

  • Home Assistant Google Drive Backup (0.105.2),
  • Check Home Assistant configuration (3.7.1),
  • File editor (5.3.3),
  • Samba share (9.5.1),
  • AppDaemon 4 (0.7.1),
  • NGINX Home Assistant SSL proxy (3.1.0),
  • ESPHome (2022.1.1),
  • Terminal & SSH (9.3.0),
  • Node-RED (10.3.4),
  • Assistant Relay (0.7.4),
  • Let’s Encrypt (4.12.0)

35 Switch
604 Sensor
107 Binary Sensor
57 Device Tracker

Okay, for some reason my backups before were like 120mb, so I thought there must be a problem.
The issue I have now is that when I restore a backup on the new machine no addons and dashboards are configured.

Probably TTS cache and camera snapshots. Though as I say, if you are using SQLite database, that’s a significant chunk of the backup size.

I’ve done restores from backups to transfer to a new machine, but I use the Google Drive Backup add-on. It looks like nothing is really happening for about 20 minutes and then suddenly it restarts and everything is as it should be
