Home Assistant can't finish startup after every update

Hello all,

I have a strange problem on my raspberry pi 3. It started with version 2021.09.X
I’m running Home Assistant OS on my raspberry.

After every update of Home Assistant Core, Home Assistant can’t finish its startup. For example it can’t finish the startup of the integration “automation”

To resolve this problem I have to restart the hole host/raspberry. After the host reboot, every restart of Home Assistant Core runs fine.

I’ve had the similar issue on a Home Assistant container install going back months (can’t remember exactly when it started). Every time I update the container to a new version of Home Assistant, it takes awhile to startup, my logs fill with errors (similar to yours), and half my things don’t work.

All I do is “restart home assistant” from the configuration, server controls screen after a few minutes when everything settles down (I don’t have to reboot the whole machine) and then everything comes back fine relatively quickly. I don’t have logs to post since they clear out when I restart but next time I update I’ll try and save them.

Honestly I haven’t thought much of it since a simple restart of just Home Assistant fixes everything for me. I also am assuming its a “custom integration” causing the issue. I see we both use Hacs and Alexa Media Player, so maybe its something with one of those?

Facing the same thing. I did an update and thing would connect so I figured the update corrupted things. Did a reboot, still dead. Wiped the SD card, did a fresh install, life is good. Updated and had to restart my Pi4 manually as it “hung” on installation.

@mwav3 Sadly the startup never sattles down. The button “restart home assistant” doesn’t work for me. I get the message, that the startup isn’t finished :sweat_smile:

Maybe I try an update without the custom integration or try an fresh install as suggested by @VKSheridan

Hey, I’m experiencing the same issue at the moment. Did you sort it out?
Right now I restart the VM after the update to get HA alive, Restart via HA itself doesn’t work for me either.

Somehow the bug fixed itself. I don’t have this problem anymore.
